2019 Tree Preservation Ordinance Survey

April 8, 2019 -- The City of Highland Park Tree Preservation Ordinance, in effect since 1991, preserves healthy trees during construction every year! The City, in collaboration with DePaul University and The Morton Arboretum, will conduct an evaluation during summer 2019 on the positive results of the Ordinance. The Department of Public Works Forestry Section staff identified 200 homes who received a tree construction permit to preserve trees between 2005 and 2016. The selected homes will receive a door-hanger notification stating a City-authorized representative will visit the house sites between May 15th and July 15th to assess the condition of the private trees. The evaluation results will determine the effectiveness of the current Tree Preservation Ordinance and propose additional tree preservation requirements, if necessary.
