Jan. 15: MLK Day of Service

January 5, 2024 -- Join us on Monday, January 15, at the Recreation Center of Highland Park for the 15th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service to pay tribute to Dr. King’s legacy through service. A drive-through donation event will be held in the Rec Center parking lot from 9 - 10:30 AM, with the program and service projects beginning at 10 AM.

Hosted by the City of Highland Park’s Human Relations Advisory Group and the Park District of Highland Park at the Recreation Center of Highland Park, the program will feature a keynote address on health equity by Brandon Buchanan, FACHE System Asst. VP (HP Hospital) and a performance by Ravinia Festival's Reach Teach Play. Local organizations will facilitate a variety of service projects.

The weather is forecasted to be extremely cold; as such, please note the following procedure for the drive-thru donation drop-off event:
    - Please pre-sort and label donations by organization. This will allow volunteers to sort your donations inside the Senior Center.
    - Drivers should remain in their vehicles at all times.
    - A volunteer will unload your donations and ensure they are directed to the proper organization.
    - Follow the signage to the Donation Drop-Off point under the porte cochere, by the entrance to the Highland Park Senior Center.

Information regarding organizations participating in the donation drop-off portion from 9-10:30AM (including wish lists) is available at cityhpil.com/mlk.
