For many years, Highland Park has been a Sister City to Yerucham, Israel, and our community has benefitted greatly from our exchange of culture, ideas, and history. The City extends its deepest condolences to all who are mourning and stands in solidarity with Israel and all who are sheltering from violence.
As the sun sets today, members of Highland Park’s Jewish community will welcome the holiday of Simchat Torah, which marks the ending of one cycle of reading the Torah in synagogue and the beginning of a new one. It is a reminder and celebration of Jewish faith traditions carried forward from year to year, generation to generation, unbroken by violence.
