Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Highland Park Public Library and the Park District of Highland Park! Our sister governments have planned a number of exciting activities to engage community members of all ages in a celebration of Hispanic and Latino/a/x culture, highlights of which are included below. Highland Park Public Library programs:
- El Mago – A Bilingual Magic Show (Wednesday, September 20, 6:30 - 7:30 PM)*
- Talaveras Drop-in Craft (Monday, September 25, Wednesday, September 27, Friday, September 29, 3:30 - 5:30 PM. Ages 8 – 14)
- Mexican Sugar Skulls (Tuesday, October 10, 6:30 – 8 PM. All Ages. Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.)*
- Coffee With A Scent Of Books!: What I Saw, by Laura Esquivel (Thursday, October 12, 6:30 - 8 PM)
- Note For Note Music Series: Huguito Gutierrez - The Music of the Andes (Saturday, October 14, 2 -3 PM)*
Find a “Libro Lotería” display for adults in the lobby. Lotería is a popular game in Hispanic cultures, especially Mexican culture. The display will feature books from all facets of the Hispanic/ Latine experience with cards from the game matching the covers. Additionally, international movies from Latin America and Spanish-language audiobooks will be featured.
For children, find biographies of famous, noteworthy, and inspirational members of the Hispanic community. Books will be in English, Spanish, or bilingual for students in elementary school and middle school in the Youth Services Department.
