May 15 , 2024 -- Please join us on Monday, May 27, at 11 AM at Highland Park High School Auditorium (433 Vine Ave.) for the City's annual Memorial Day observance. Veteran William Joe Wallace, Jewish War Veterans Post #29, and former Marine and retired Highland Park Police Officer Henry (Hank) Schotanus will be honored as Heroes Among Us. The event will include a bell ceremony honoring Highland Park veterans who have passed away, a reading by Highland Park Poet Laureate and retired Air Force Major Laura Joyce-Hubbard, and feature a performance by the Highland Park High School band. The Memorial Day Observance is planned in partnership with the American Legion Post #145, Jewish War Veterans Post #29, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4737.
Individuals driving to the event should park at the High School's H entrance (off of St. Johns.) Individuals may be dropped off at the auditorium entrance on St. Johns, just south of Vine and across the street from Maple.
In observance of Memorial Day, City administrative services will be closed on Monday, May 27. Residents may call the public safety non-emergency line at 847.432.7730 if non-emergency assistance is required.
