How will community members participate in the Remembrance Ceremony?
The remembrance ceremony will include a short program with a moment of silence, remarks, and music. Following this set program, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a community walk along the 2022 parade route (north on St. Johns, west on Central to Sunset Woods Park.)
How can I view the Remembrance Ceremony livestream?
The Remembrance Ceremony will be livestreamed on the City's Facebook page. Individuals may RSVP to the Facebook event for a reminder before the livestream begins. The livestream link will be available on the City's website on the morning of July 4, 2023.
The video will also be archived on the City's website and YouTube channel by Friday, July 7.
Will the program include interpretation in ASL, Spanish, or another language?
ASL and Spanish translation interpreters will be part of the ceremony. If interpretation in another language is required, please contact the City at cityhp@cityhpil.com by June 20, 2023, and every effort will be made to accommodate the request live during the ceremony.
Will there be seating at the event?
There will be a limited number of chairs for individuals who are not able to stand for the duration of the event. If you have any questions about access or to request seating for the Remembrance Ceremony or any reasonable accommodations that will facilitate your full participation in this event please contact the City’s ADA Coordinator Emily Taub at etaub@cityhpil.com or 847.926.1005 by June 20, 2023. The City will make reasonable efforts to accommodate questions or requests received by June 20, 2023. Please note that some of the event seating may be marked as reserved.
Will community members be able to visit the temporary memorial at the Rose Garden during the Remembrance Ceremony?
Because it is located within the secure event area, on July 4, 2023, the temporary memorial will be open to visitors who have registered to attend the Remembrance Ceremony. Open access to the temporary memorial will be available after the conclusion of the Community Walk when all road closures have been reopened, estimated by 2:00 PM.
