Volunteer Opportunities

Lake County Medical Reserve Corps : Help With Vaccination!
The Lake County Medical Reserve Corps is a volunteer group that works to support the increased demands of the healthcare system in the event of a major health emergency. Opportunities are available for medical and non-medical personnel to assist with COVID-19 vaccination. Volunteer by emailing  HLHealthEM@lakecountyil.gov or calling 847-377-8186.

Donating Blood
Individuals who are healthy and able to donate blood may consider making an appointment at a local blood donation facility. Vitalant (formerly LifeSource) operates two donation locations in Lake County, one in Gurnee and one in Lake Bluff. Donating Face Coverings
Various organizations throughout Lake County are collecting homemade cloth face coverings to distribute to vulnerable populations. Click here for more information. 

Food Donations/Food Pantries
Food insecurity is an area of particular need in Lake County. While the Moraine Township Food Pantry is currently fully staffed, other organizations are seeking volunteers to assist families and invdividuals at this time: 

Community Action to Combat Hunger (CATCH)
Volunteers needed to:

  • Package and prep meal boxes
  • Deliver food to families or seniors in need
  • Move resources from one location to another for distribution

Volunteers needed to:
  • Pick up and deliver noon-time meals to homebound seniors

Northern Illinois Food Bank
Volunteers needed to:
  • Sort & pack food
  • Assist with food distribution
  • Stock shelves

Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteers

Serve Illinois is compiling a list of known volunteer needs throughout the state of Illinois. From in-person opportunities for healthy individuals who pass a health screening to remote, volunteer-from-home positions, there is a wide variety of opportunities available. 

Organizations in need of volunteers may also reach out to Serve Illinois to be added to the list of volunteer needs.

United Way of Lake County
211 United Way of Lake County has also posted a list of volunteer opportunities throughout the area. Prospective volunteers should register with 211/United Way of Lake County and indicate their volunteer interests and availability. Remote and in-person volunteer opportunities are available. ElderCARE Lake County
ElderCARE seeks volunteers to make assurance calls to the older adults it serves. Volunteers are needed to call an older adult at least two times per week to engage in conversation and find out if any assistance accessing food, prescriptions, or medical care is needed.
