Will my group or business be able to participate?
All community members, including businesses and nonprofit organizations, are invited to participate in the community walk following the remembrance ceremony. The walk will not include a pre-planned lineup, floats, or performers. No parade is planned for 2023. Viewing only is discouraged.
What accommodations are available to seniors or individuals with disabilities or limited mobility?
The City has reserved ADA-accessible transportation to assist individuals with disabilities in participating fully in the Community Walk. Reservations are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact the City’s ADA Coordinator Emily Taub to request accessible transportation for the Community Walk by emailing cityhp@cityhpil.com. Please note that transportation during the Walk will not stop along the route and participants will not be able to disembark until the vehicle returns to City Hall.
If you have any questions about access or to request any reasonable accommodations that will facilitate your full participation in this event please contact the City’s ADA Coordinator Emily Taub at etaub@cityhpil.com or 847.926.1005 by June 20, 2023. The City will make reasonable efforts to accommodate questions or requests received by June 20, 2023.
May I ride a bike or drive my car in the community walk?
For the safety of all participants, the community walk is intended for pedestrians only. Parents may bring strollers or wagons for small children. Vehicles and bicycles will not be permitted. The City is exploring transportation options for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and others who would like to participate but are not able to walk the full length of the route. To request transportation assistance along the community walk route, please contact the City Manager’s Office at 847.926.1000 or cityhp@cityhpil.com.
Are pets permitted at the Community Walk?
Given the anticipated attendance for the Remembrance Ceremony and the Community Walk, as well as the presence of on-site therapy animals, the Remembrance Ceremony and Community Walk are not pet-friendly events.
Will the annual Children's Bike and Pet Parade occur?
No separate bike and pet parade will take place. Families are encouraged to participate in the community walk. Please note that due to the anticipated crowd size, the community walk will be limited to pedestrians (strollers and wagons permitted.)
I live along the route and usually view the parade from my driveway. Is this OK?
While individuals are welcome to watch from home if they choose, the Community Walk is not intended for viewing. It is designed as an opportunity for active participation. There will be no floats or performers. The City discourages individuals from viewing the Walk along the commercial length of the route.
