The City of Highland Park and the Park District of Highland Park have planned a slate of events offering multiple ways for the community to gather on July 4, 2023. With the theme “We Are Highland Park,” the events focus on the importance of coming together as a community to chart a new path forward, reclaiming beloved traditions and making new memories. A detailed Q&A is available under the "July 4 Events" menu tab.

The events have been planned through a trauma-informed lens to balance the diverse needs of the community and include:

The Community Walk will symbolize the reclaiming of the 2022 parade route as we build resiliency together. Stepping off from either City Hall (for guests attending the Remembrance Ceremony as well) or the intersection of St. Johns & Elm (for guests attending only the Community Walk), we will progress west on Central Avenue to Sunset Woods Park. The Community Walk will not be a parade, and will not include floats or performers. It is intended to be an opportunity for active participation, not viewing. To maintain the secure event area, individuals are discouraged from viewing along the Central Avenue commercial corridor.
