Person of Interest Taken Into Custody in Highland Park (IL) Fourth of July Parade Shooting

July 4, 2022 – At approximately 6:30PM on Monday, July 4, the North Chicago Police Department identified a Honda Fit with a license plate matching the suspect vehicle, traveling Southbound on IL Route 41 and Buckley in North Chicago. The Officer attempted a traffic stop; a brief pursuit ensued. In coordination with other area law enforcement, the suspect vehicle was stopped at IL Route 41 and Westleigh Road in Lake Forest. The person of interest, Robert (Bobby) E. Crimo III was taken into custody without incident.

Crimo has been transported to the Highland Park Police Department. Despite having a suspect in custody, this remains an active investigation. As the FBI and Lake County Major Crimes Unit continue to remain on site for the crime scene investigation, a perimeter will be maintained around portions of the Central Business District; detours are in place. The updated closure area includes: Central Avenue from Green Bay Road to St Johns, First Street from Laurel Avenue to Elm Place, and Second Street from Laurel Avenue to the southern entrance of the South Street public parking lot (map attached).  The Police Department requests that the public continue to send in any tips and/or photos/videos that may be relevant to the investigation for processing.

Individuals still needing to be reunited with loved ones they were separated from during the course of today’s events should go to the Highland Park Police Department at 1677 Old Deerfield Rd, Highland Park.
