ComEd to Relocate Utility Poles Near Clavey Rd.

February 3, 2021 -- In preparation for the upcoming Clavey Rd. Improvement Project, Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) is scheduled to begin work to relocate its utility poles. The ComEd work will entail tree and landscape/brush removal, on the north side of Clavey Rd, to make room to install new, relocated poles. Weather permitting, the ComEd tree removal work is scheduled to begin on February 4. This utility work must be completed before Phase One Construction infrastructure work is scheduled to begin in April.

The City has been notified by IDOT on accepting the bid for the Clavey Rd Improvements Phase One Construction project. The project limits are from US Route 41 to Green Bay Road. Due to federal funding constraints, the construction of the project will be completed in a two-phase construction project.

Major items of work completed in the phase one construction project include complete removal and replacement of the bridge that carries Clavey Road over the Skokie River, construction of new water main, and construction of temporary pavement to be used to maintain two-way traffic for future construction operations.

Major items of work in the phase two construction project include reconstruction of new asphalt pavement, new upsized storm sewers, installation of a new 8-ft wide bike path, traffic signal upgrades, and pedestrian safety enhancements. Upon completion of both phases, a separate landscape contract will be bid to complete the Clavey Rd corridor landscape beautification plan.
