Highland Park Police Investigate Possible Shots Fired; Charges Filed Against Individual for Unlawful Use of a Firearm

On January 1, 2020 at approximately 2:40 AM, Highland Park Police Officers were assisting with a parking complaint in the 1400 block of Ridge Rd.  While on scene, officers heard what they believed to be gunshots.  Officers located a large party in the area at a short-term rental home.  While making contact with the occupants, several subjects left the area.  During the initial investigation, officers interviewed partygoers and no verifiable victims or witnesses have been attributed to this incident at this point.

Highland Park officers stopped a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed from the area of the party.  As a result of the stop and after a brief foot pursuit in the area of Deerfield Rd. and Carlisle Ave., in Deerfield a passenger was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.  The offender was identified as Keymon D. Shanklin, 22 years old of the 6700 block of S. Claremont Ave. in Chicago. As of now, Shanklin has not been attributed to the suspected shots-fired incident.

The incident was reviewed by the Lake County States Attorney’s Office and the following charges were approved.  Shanklin was transported to Bond Court on Thursday, January 2, 2020 and remanded to custody with a $150,000 bond.
