Internet Safety Month

June is Internet Safety Month and the City of Highland Park is renewing its commitment to keeping our family and community safe on the internet. The internet presents many challenges due to its large audience and anonymity. In addition, more viral threats are particularly targeting children and teens. However, through awareness and knowledge of safety tips it is possible to minimize the negative effects it can have on our children and community. This School Safety Newsletter from the Statewide Terrorism Intelligence Center sheds light on virtual stunts, also known as “challenges”. While some are harmless, others are dangerous and can result in physical injury. The newsletter also presents research on other viral abuse complaints as well as what parents can do to protect their children.
