School Safety is a Priority  for the City of Highland Park Police Department

The City of Highland Park extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims and families of yesterday’s shooting at Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

The City of Highland Park’s top priority is to provide public safety. The City of Highland Park Police Department continues to partner with both North Shore School District 112 and Township High School District 113 to provide the highest levels of school safety. A Police Resource Officer is stationed at Highland Park High School and at District 112. The resource officers proactively work with students and staff to provide education on a variety of safety issues. The Highland Park Police will continue to work diligently to ensure that our community is safe.

The police and school districts work closely together to help prevent school violence by:

  • Providing regular police presence in and around all Highland Park schools
  • Monitoring social media activity
  • Collaborating with social service resources on violence and bullying prevention
  • Working alongside parents to watch for unusual behavior

The Highland Park Police Department encourages anyone with information regarding school violence, suspicious activity or bullying issues to immediately contact the Highland Park Police Department at 847.432.7730 or school administrators.

If individuals or neighborhood groups are interested in meeting with City representatives to discuss public safety, please contact the City Manager’s Office at 847.926.1000.
