Police Arrest Individual and Charge with Attempted Murder and Aggravated Domestic Battery

Highland Park, Illinois – On Friday, January 5 at 10:15 PM, the Highland Park Police and Fire Departments were notified of a stabbing that had just taken place in the 1600 Block of McGovern Avenue in Highland Park.  The female victim was transported to Evanston Hospital in critical condition with multiple stab wounds where she was treated and stabilized.

Officers immediately responded to the scene, located and cared for multiple juvenile witnesses, obtained a description of the suspect and began searching for him with the assistance of several neighboring jurisdictions.  The offender was located on foot in the area and taken into custody by Highland Park Police.  Investigators determined that the victim and offender knew each other and that the attack was not a random act.

Some of the juvenile witnesses attempted to stop the offender from leaving the residence resulting in minor injuries not requiring medical assistance.  The juveniles were later turned over to local family members.

The offender was identified as Jose Gonzales, 39 years old of the 1600 Block of McGovern Avenue, Highland Park, IL.

The incident was reviewed by the Lake County States Attorney’s Office and the following charges were approved.  Gonzalez will be transported to Bond Court on Saturday, January 6, 2018.
