Records Section
The Records Section is located at 1677 Old Deerfield Rd. Records walk-in hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm Tuesday - Friday. Appointments on Mondays may be available upon request. The Records Section is closed over the following holidays:

  • Martin Luther King Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

 

Obtaining Police and Traffic Accident Reports
Police and Traffic Accident Reports can be obtained by submitting a Freedom of Information Request. The signed form can be presented in person at the Police Department Records window, faxed to 847.432.7706 or e-mailed to PDRecords@cityhpil.com as a PDF file.  You can also submit a Freedom of Information request online by going to the FOIA request page. Under the Freedom of Information Act, the department has 5 business days to respond to your request. There is no fee for the first 50 pages of printed information. Certain information may be redacted from the report to ensure compliance with the Freedom of Information Act.

FOIA Accident Report Request

In an effort to provide citizens and insurance companies with the ability to obtain accurate and affordable crash reports as quickly as possible, our crash reports are now available for purchase online. 

Traffic Accident Reports can usually be obtained within 24 hours . If you wish to obtain a copy of your accident report online, please visit PoliceReports.LexisNexis.com. LexisNexis charges a nominal convenience fee for this service which is added to the cost of the report.  Involved parties that do not wish to pay the convenience fee can still come to the police station and pay only the cost of the report.

Expungement of Adult Arrest Records
For adult arrest records, you will need to obtain a court order for expungement through the court in which you were adjudicated. Typically that would be the 19th Judicial Circuit Court of Lake County in Waukegan.

Expungement of Juvenile Records
View the public notice regarding the automatic expungement of eligible records maintained by the Highland Park Police Department for activity/contact between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2019, based on criteria put forth in the Illinois Juvenile Court Act.
