The Major Accident Investigation Team consists of the Police Department's most thoroughly trained technical accident investigators. Each Team Member has graduated from Northwestern University (The Traffic Institute) Technical Accident Investigation series. Team Members regularly attend training series and advanced seminars dealing with vehicular homicide and accident investigation issues.

The Major Accident Investigation Team will routinely provide technical assistance to the Patrol Division in the handling of motor vehicle collisions.

The major Accident Investigation Team is recognized by area police departments as authorities in accident investigation and has rendered technical assistance on major motor vehicle collisions occurring in other communities.

The Major Accident Investigation Team shall be called to investigate all motor vehicle collisions involving the death of an individual, significant personal injury, or collisions requiring technical assistance beyond that of on-duty personnel.
