| The
mechanism through which Crime Prevention operates is the Community-wide
Crime Prevention Program.
It has been the goal of our police department to stimulate appropriate
crime prevention attitudes and behavior on the part of individuals
and group, and to work toward physical environment changes which
promote crime prevention.
Some of these programs
are:
-
Meeting with and educating community groups such as: Lions Club,
Senior Men's Club, school-parent organizations and businesses.
-
Environmental design: a program in which the crime prevention
officer offers suggestions and modifications to homes and businesses
involving landscape design and lighting, that often discourage
criminal activity and encourage citizen activity
in the environment.
-
Home/Business Security Surveys: recommendations that include
specific changes in store policies, the hiring of personnel and
the
ideas for reducing internal theft.
-
Crime Prevention is the future in managing a community's approach
to crime control. The ultimate success of crime prevention is
dependent upon a cooperation between our police department and
our community. Together we can assemble, refine and share knowledge
of crime prevention. This partnership will continue to reduce
the opportunity for crime into the 21st Century. For more information,
please contact the Highland Park Police Department's Crime Prevention
Officer at (847) 926-1122.
