CHILD SAFETY SEATS Updated February 23, 2007

The City of Highland Park Police Department has several certified Child Safety Seat Technicians to assist the public with the inspection of child restraint seats. Safety seat inspections are performed every other Thursday at the Police Department’s substation located in the upper level of the Port Clinton Parking Garage.

Appointments can be scheduled by contacting the Police Department at (847) 432-7730. Upon making an appointment, a certified technician will check the installation of your child seat. If it is not installed properly, the technician will make necessary adjustments and will educate the parent on proper installation techniques.

Prior to your appointment, please take a moment to read the material and instructions that came with your car seat and install the car seat on your own. Our technicians are more than eager to inspect your car seat installation and make adjustments if necessary. The technician will require your full attention and willingness to learn, as this is an “educational” service and not an installation service.

If you are expecting a child in the near future, please plan ahead and schedule a child safety seat appointment well in advance of your due date. If exigent circumstances exist, inspection appointments can be scheduled at times other than listed above contingent upon the availability of certified technicians.
