BUSINESS LIAISON OFFICER Updated September 10, 2008

This program was initiated by the Highland Park Police Department in October 1995. It was made possible through a federal grant. The Business Liaison Officer works directly with the business community and citizens to strengthen the lines of communication, heighten community awareness and develop a stronger community partnership.

Officer Tom Spanos, a nine-year police veteran, serves as the Police Department's Business Liaison Officer. As part of his duties, Officer Spanos meets with businesses, identifies concerns and generates common priorities between the private and the public sectors.

During the summer months, Officer Spanos is part of the Police Department's Motorcycle Unit. This unit patrols the Central and Ravinia Business Districts, as well as parks, the Green Bay Trail and the lakefront areas. The Motorcycle Patrol Unit also covers many special events, such as the July 4th activities, the Taste of Highland Park and numerous other festivals. The Motorcycle Unit enables officers to cover more area in response to increased activity that the summer months bring.

Officer Spanos operates out of Police Headquarters and is available Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For more information, you may contact Officer Tom Spanos at (847) 926-1132.
