The Police Department provides 24-hour protection and community services with a staff of 60 sworn officers and 18 non-sworn personnel. Law enforcement, order maintenance and community services are provided by the Support Services, Patrol and Investigative Divisions. Programs and activities include: preventive patrol, crime prevention activities, traffic and parking enforcement, ordinance enforcement, criminal investigation, emergency services, school education (officer Friendly) and high school liaison, youth officer, business liaison, bicycle patrol, park district and beach guard details, school crossing guards, telecommunications and mobile data terminals, special operations/events, Tactical Unit, Major Accident Investigation Team and Fire/Bomb Investigation Unit.
