Some Do's and Don'ts about
going to and from School
DO
- Do: Always walk on the sidewalk, where available.
- Do: Walk against traffic closest to curb, if no sidewalk is available.
- Do: Cross only at crosswalks.
- Do: Walk your bicycle at all crosswalks.
- Do: Cross only on green or "walk" lights at controlled
intersections.
- Do: Always stop, look and listen before entering a crosswalk.
- Do: Stop, look and listen at all railroad crossings before
crossing.
- Do: Wait for the crossing guard to return to you to help
you cross.
- Do: Look down driveways for backing cars.
- Do: Wear something bright, such as a yellow poncho, when
it's dark, snowy, foggy or raining.
- Do: Walk with friends when possible.
- Do: Walk directly to and from school.
DO NOT
- Do Not: Enter a crosswalk on a red, amber or "Do not walk" light.
- Do Not: Wear headsets when walking or crossing intersections.
- Do Not: Play in the street.
- Do Not: Play on railroad tracks.
- Do Not: Roller blade in the street or in the business district.
- Do Not: Stop at friends without mom or dad's permission.
- Do Not: Cross railroad tracks when the gates are down and the
bell is ringing.
- Do Not: Talk to strangers.
