HANDGUN CONTROL ORDINANCE Updated June 16, 2006
 

Highland Park residents are reminded of the City's Handgun Control Ordinance which prohibits the possession of handguns within the corporate limits of the City, except for those persons who fall within certain exempt categories, listed in Section 134.003 of the Ordinance.

To apply for registration to possess a handgun in Highland Park, residents must be 21 or older, and must:

  1. Have a valid State of Illinois Firearms Owners Identification Card.
  2. Apply and Pay a $5 registration fee at the Police Department.
  3. Attend a firearm safety training session conducted by the Police Department after initial application is approved.
  4. Re-register annually and attend the Police Department's Firearms Safety session at least once every three years.
