Holiday Lighting Ceremony
Winter festivities begin in downtown Highland Park with the Holiday Lighting Ceremony on
Saturday, November 23 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Port Clinton Square. The day’s events will feature a performance by the Lake Forest Country Day School Choir, and the Highland Park High School Marching Band, with a special appearance by Santa.
New this year to the event is a family-friendly scavenger hunt through downtown Highland Park with prizes at the end. In addition, don’t miss free, live performances of The Nutcracker by students of the Irina Makkai Ballet Studio in the store window of Uncle Dan’s at the corner of Central Avenue and Second Street. The afternoon events will conclude with Mayor Rotering flipping the switch to turn on the holiday lights in Port Clinton Square.
Attendees this year are also encouraged to take advantage of extended parking hours on November 23. During this time, there will be no time limits enforced in municipal parking lots. Disabled parking, permit parking, fire hydrant zones, loading zones and on-street customer only parking will still be in effect. Employee parking restrictions will also be strictly enforced.

Port Clinton Art Festival & Taste of Highland Park
For 30 years, the has been recognized as one of the most successful juried art festivals in the country, attracting more than 250,000 art enthusiasts annually. This distinguished outdoor festival offers fine art from more than 260 of the world's most celebrated artists. Exceptional artwork of all mediums is available at the festival, including ceramics, drawings, furniture, glass, jewelry, metal, paintings, photography and wood. Port Clinton Art Festival In addition to the juried artists exhibiting, the festival hosts a youth art division, which offers young artists, ages 18 and under, an opportunity to participate in one of the finest art festivals in the country. Throughout the weekend festival-goers will enjoy art activities for kids, including an art scavenger hunt and spin art, interactive art demos, performance speed painting, and, of course, original artwork offered by master artists from around the world.
Kicking off the festival weekend is the 7th Annual , which Taste of Highland Park opens in conjunction with the festival throughout the weekend. The Taste features food from many of Highland Park's notable restaurants. In addition to the tasty fare, festival-goers will enjoy a variety of live musical performances from acclaimed bands and performers throughout the weekend; 2013 performers included Cirrus Falcon, Eric Stang, A Jersey Voice, Sugar High, Brad Cole & Friends, Million Dollar Quartet, Gone 2 Paradise, 16 Candies, and more!
