Biking and Walking in Highland Park
The City of Highland Park, in line with its Sustainability Initiatives, strives to be a city that caters to both cyclists and pedestrians. In 2014, Highland Park earned an Honorable Mention as a bicycle friendly community from the League of American Bicyclists, and is continuing to improve in providing resources and opportunities for residents who ride or walk.

Current Cycling and Pedestrian Events in Highland Park

Bike Fair
On May 16, 2015, together the City of Highland Park, Highland Park Police Department, Community Emergency Response Team, Working Bikes, the Rotary Club of Highland Park/Highwood, and Trek Bicycle Store will host the first Highland Park Community Bike Fair in celebration of National Bike Month. The Bike Fair will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.in the Highland Park Metra parking lot at St. Johns Avenue and Ravine Drive.

Bike/Walk 2030 Plan

The City has developed a Bike-Walk Plan which proposes that Highland Park develop dedicated bicycle lanes, designate shared roadways, sign bicycle routes and shared-use paths. It will improve sidewalks and intersections throughout the city for cyclists and pedestrians. These facilities will make it easier to walk or ride around town and offer safe and scenic places for recreation close to home. The Plan also includes recommendations to make it easier to use existing local public transportation for persons of all abilities.
