The City of Highland Park has partnered with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) to promote residential recycling of outdated, broken or unwanted household electronic equipment. The drop-off program is available to all Lake County residents and is open year-round on Tuesdays and the first Saturday of each month from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1180 Half Day Road.
This program was previously paid for by electronic manufacturers, however the state funding formula has not kept pace with the amount recycled, and does not cover the costs to continue the program. Donations have helped fund the program until the end of 2016.
SWALCO will continue to evaluate options to keep the electronic recycling facilities in operation.
Fortunately for Highland Park residents, our agreement with Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS)
allows one large electronic waste item to placed curbside on the customer's first pickup of each month at no additional charge. Items over 50 lbs. will incur additional fees. To ensure your electronic recycling items are collected, you must call LRS to schedule your pick-up.

Hours of Operation
The drop-off program is available to all Lake County residents and is open year-round on Tuesdays from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and on the first Saturday of each month from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1180 Half Day Road.
Electronics foam, clothing and textile recycling are critical programs with many benefits to the environment. Recycled electronics means more free space in landfills and less pollution to ground soils and ground water from aging metals. Manufacturing with recycled materials significantly reduces pollution, carbon emissions and water and energy consumption.
