  • Monitors the health of the natural environment of the community.
  • Monitors various agencies and commissions which work on environmental issues.
  • Strives to create an interest and awareness of the problems of land, water and air pollution among the citizens of Highland Park

Rules of Procedure
The Open Meeting Act requires the members of the Environmental Commission to discuss public business in an open, public forum. This law requires that, whenever a gathering of three or more Commissioners occurs during which public business is discussed, such meetings be advertised (through a posted agenda) and be open to the public.

Membership
The Environmental Commission consists of seven (7) voting members and three non-voting Ex-Officio members (City Council, Student and Park District Representative), all of whom are appointed by the Mayor with consent of City Council.
