COUNT ME IN! HAZME CONTAR!
Highland Park has created a Complete Count Committee (CCC) for the 2010 Census. The CCC is comprised of community and government leaders dedicated to increase awareness about the Census and motivate residents within the community to respond. The CCC will help ensure that an accurate count of Highland Park residents is performed.
WHY DO WE TAKE THE CENSUS?
- Population totals from the 2010 Census will determine the number of seats each state has in the House of Representatives
- Population totals also affect funding within the community
HOW IS CENSUS DATA USED?
- Title 1 Grants to educational agencies
- Head Start Programs
- Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
- Public Transportation
- Road rehabilitation and construction
- Programs for the elderly
- Emergency food and shelter
- Empowerment zones
- Many, many more areas
HOW IS THE CENSUS DATA USED FOR ME?
10 QUESTIONS, 10 MINUTES
THE CENSUS BUREAU IS STILL CONTACTING HOUSEHOLDS
The Census Bureau is completing it's third week of visiting households that did not complete the form or to clarify information. Below are some reasons why the Census Bureau may contact your household even though you completed the form:
- If the mailed-in form was received too late, your household was added to the list of addresses to visit.
- If there was missing or conflicting information on the form that was received.
- If the Census Bureau can’t match the address you provided on a “Be Counted” form or over the phone to their master address list.
- If the number given for how many people were living at the address on April 1 does not match the number of people for whom information was provided.
- If the form indicates that additional people were staying at the address on April 1 but were not included in the household’s count.
- If the Census Bureau suspects that they received duplicate information about a housing unit or individual, they will follow-up to make sure people are not counted twice.
If a Census Worker contacts your household, please be sure to answer the questions so that you can be counted in the 2010 Census!
