Kid Couriers
This project has proven itself to be a much needed service in the community. Twice each month volunteer youth, along with staff from Youth and Senior Services, grocery shop for home bound seniors in Highland Park. The senior citizens are extremely appreciative and greatly enjoy seeing the kids. Shopping is the first and third Fridays of the month at 3:15 p.m. Additional volunteers are always welcome. On days when we won't be grocery shopping for Seniors. Twice a month volunteer youth, along with staff from Youth and Senior Services, will run errands for home bound seniors in Highland Park. Errand running is on alternate Fridays as the shopping at 3:15 p.m. This community service is a perfect opportunity for kids to help individuals right in their community. Friendly Visitor Program
The Highland Park Senior Center, is recruiting Youth to participate in a “Friendly Visitor” Program. This program is ideal for kids looking to develop a relationship with an older adult in the community. You must be willing to make a weekly, one-hour commitment throughout the school year. Character Counts at The Firehouse!
Recently, "Character Counts and the Six Pillars" were brought to the Highland Park Community. This program offers many ideas to help youth establish and maintain excellent values. The staff at The Firehouse supports and upholds the Six Pillars each and every day within the Activity Center. Below, you will find some other ways The Firehouse brings the Six Pillars into the Highland Park Community.

Tutors
If you are a high school student interested in volunteering for community service work, The Firehouse needs individuals for one-on-one tutoring after school for junior high students. Volunteer service is not only helpful to the community, but also enhances your life. If you are interested please call Gina Haske at (847) 926-1865.

Tutors/Mentors
If you are a high school student interested in volunteering for community service work, The Firehouse needs individuals for weekly one-on-one tutoring after school for middle school students. In addition to one-on-one volunteers, The Firehouse is also seeking high school volunteers to work with students in the Study Room, Monday-Thursday after school. Peer Jury
Youth Services and the Highland Park Police Department run a Peer Jury Program. Volunteers ages 13-17 are needed to serve as jurors once a month.The requirements are that you must be in good standing with the Police, go through the training process, and attend monthly two-hour Peer Jury sessions. For more information, call Don or Gina at The Firehouse. Applications are available at The Firehouse and the Highland Park Police Department.

Staff Assistants
The Firehouse Youth Center offers a great volunteer opportunity for members to become role models and leaders to their peers. A staff assistant's primary role is to assist staff in a variety of important jobs helping to keep The Firehouse a safe and rewarding place. Assistance to staff during dances, scheduled events, game changes, tournaments, and other jobs will be expected. Hours worked will be logged and can be used towards t-shirts or other rewards.
