Voter Eligibility
You may register to vote if you are:

  • A United States Citizen;
  • At least 18 years old on election day;
  • You have resided in your voting precinct for at least 30 days.

Note: You must reregister if your name or permanent address has changed, or if you have not voted in the past four years. Voter registration requires two forms of identification, including one with a current address, (new residents may use a utility bill, checkbook, etc.).

Residents who move within a county and hold a current registration card can follow the instructions on the back of the card to complete the transaction by mail. If a card is not current or a person has changed their name by marriage, the change can be handled at the Clerk's Office.

New registrations and changes of address cannot be accepted in the 28-day period before an election or during the two days immediately following an election.

Precinct committee persons are eligible to register residents in their homes, and the League of Women Voters (847-433-8855) sponsor special registration days.

By registering, residents are eligible to vote in local, national, state, county, township, and park and school district elections.
