LANDSCAPING LICENSING Updated August 29, 2008

In 2002, the City of Highland Park established a lawn care professional licensing program that requires all lawn care professionals operating in the City to acquire an annual license.  Each operating vehicle used by a lawn care professional will require proof of licensing by displaying a sticker on the driver’s side windshield.

In order to obtain the required vehicle stickers, landscaping companies must provide the following information:

  1. Completed application: first-time application or renewal application
  2. Proof of automobile, worker’s compensation, and general liability insurance in the form of a certificate (example)
  3. Landscapers employing three or fewer employees may opt to waive worker’s compensation insurance by completing this form
  4. First-time applicants must also submit a vehicle photograph that includes a depiction of the company’s logo

Additionally, landscapers must be aware of pertinent City regulations, including the following:

  1. Chapter 102 of the Highland Park Code: Licensing of Lawn Care Professionals
  2. Section 95.001 of the Highland Park Code: Use of Leaf Blowers and Public Nuisances
  3. Chapter 100 of the Highland Park Code: Smoking Regulations
  4. Vehicle parking instructions

For more information regarding the proper completion of each application, please refer to the following documents:

  1. First-time applicant cover letter and instructional guide
  2. Renewal applicant cover letter and instructional guide

The lawn care professional licensing fee for 2008 is $100 regardless of the number of vehicles that are in a company’s operating fleet.   Completed applications can be faxed to Chuck Meyer, Administrative Intern, at (847) 432-1385, or mailed or delivered in person to:
