2017 Martin Luther King Day of Service
Highland Park’s 8th Annual MLK Day of Service
Join us at the Highland Park Recreational Center on Monday, January 16 from 10 AM - 2 PM as Highland Park celebrates the life  of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the 8th annual day of service and celebration. This multi-generational community event will be held to honor Dr. King’s life devoted to social service, equality, social justice, economic advancement and opportunity for all. 
The day is free to all, and is presented by the City’s Human Relations Commission and the Park District of Highland Park

Event Details
Join together with the community, friends and family on Monday, January 16 from 10 AM – 2 PM for the 8th Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service, held at the Recreation Center of Highland Park.  Purposeful service projects and entertainment will engage all ages. The Honorable Jesse White, Illinois Secretary of State, will recount his experiences as a student of Dr. King, and the Jesse White Tumblers will perform their amazing feats. Listen to Highland Park’s very own Lynn Epps perform a portrait of Dr. King, and the Edgewood chorus perform a variety of civic minded songs.

Service projects will include, assembling toiletries for Hospitalized Veterans and the USO, creating Valentine messages for Operation Support Our Troops (Braeside PTO), decorating squares for Project Linus (Lincoln Service Club), decorating tablecloths for the USO (Wayne Thomas PTO), helping prepare soup packets for Moraine Township Food Bank (Red Oak PTO), decorating book marks for Bernie’s Book Bank (Ravinia CARE Club), and decorating and filling book bags for distribution at North Shore Health Clinic.

The MLK event will be accepting collections for a variety of causes including food for Moraine Township Food Pantry, glasses for Lions Club, instruments for Ravinia Foundation, toiletries for Veterans and USO plus bicycles for Working Bikes. Seeking donations of toiletries and non-perishable food items; please bring and drop off donated items to the event between 10 AM – 12 noon.  

There will be onsite parking, with overflow parking available at Wolters Field.
